Konrad Adenauer & Konstantinos Karamanlis: The Legacy of Two Great European Statesmen
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS) and the Konstantinos G. Karamanlis Foundation co-hosted a special event at the German Ambassador’s residence in Athens, dedicated to the enduring legacy of two of Europe’s most prominent political figures.
The evening commenced with welcoming remarks from Charlotte Schwarz, Chargé d’Affaires of the German Embassy in Greece; Marian Wendt, Director of the KAS Office for Greece and Cyprus; and Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos, General Director of the Konstantinos G. Karamanlis Foundation.
Following the introductions, engaging keynote addresses were delivered by Antonis Klapsis, Associate Professor at the University of Peloponnese, and Michael Borchard, Director of the Scientific Services and Archive for Christian Democratic Policy at KAS.
To mark the occasion, a newly published study by Antonis Klapsis—sharing the event’s title—was officially launched. The publication provides a compelling comparative analysis of the parallel paths taken by Adenauer and Karamanlis. It explores how both leaders shaped the institutional architecture and economic growth of their respective nations, while highlighting their pivotal contributions to the vision of European integration.
